The First LMS designed Express locomotive type to enter traffic in 1927.
They were an immediate success & took over all major work from the LNWR 4-6-0s & 4-4-0s. They remained at the head of the most important Expresses even when the more powerful Pacifics began to be introduced. Due to various problems Sir William Stanier decided to rebuild them but this took 12 years to complete, the last 46137 rebuilt in 1955. My models are based on the locomotives as running towards the end of the LMS and early BR days.Of the locomotives I've modelled 46148 The Manchester Regiment was the penultimate survivor lasting until July 1954. 24 of the 70 Scots survived into nationalisation but most of these were rebuilt within the first 3 or 4 years of British Railways.
