A small tank engine of which only 10 were ever built. They were an updated version of Midland tank engines & used mainframes & other major components from withdrawn Midland types. Considering so few were built, they were still spread out quite widely over the LMS system. They were renumbered in 1945 to open the numbering space up for Ivatt 2F 2-6-0's & were used on lightweight branchline passenger trains & in BR days increasingly used for push-pull work. They were all withdrawn in 1959 except 41900 which lasted until 1962.None are preserved.
My model has three variants. 6402 & 6404 have the original stovepipe chimney fitted from new. By the time Plain black livery was being applied Stanier chimneys were being fitted & as such thats what the Plain black LMS livery locomotives have. All the BR liveried locomotives have VCR equipment fitted for working motor trains. This is an addition to the mesh only & is none working. Only two locomotives had this equipment in LMS days but all were fitted early on after nationalisation.
